Under University of Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham, you can almost always count on Utah’s defense performing well. Specifically, Utah always manages to find stand-out players at defensive end. Enter Chase Kennedy, a 6-foot-3, 224-pound three-star weakside defensive end from Episcopal High School in Dallas, Texas who Utah hosted during the matchup against Colorado.
“I had a great time. I loved it,” said Kennedy. “Great players, great coaches, and the city is great.”
Kennedy plans to sign on the 15th and says he has narrowed his list down to four or five schools. “(The trip to Utah) definitely gave me lots to think about,” said Kennedy. “It made the decision a lot harder. Now it is between a couple of schools, Utah being one of them. I already thought really highly of (Utah) but taking this trip showed me a lot.”
During his visit, he spent time with his player hosts Elvis Vakapuna and Andrew Mata’afa.
“They were telling me how great the coaching staff is and how connected they are with the players,” said Kennedy. “They were really excited about the conference championship.”
He also spent time with the coaches Kyle Whittingham, Lewis Powell, Morgan Scalley, and Sharrieff Shah.
“Coach Shah, he is just really a ball of energy,” said Kennedy. “Sometimes he is more hyped than the players, but really you could tell it was just all love from him and everyone else on the staff.”
Kennedy’s five schools still in the running are Houston, Colorado, Oklahoma State, TCU, and Utah.
“I have definitely narrowed it down,” said Kennedy. “I will be signing on the 15th. I don’t know yet if I will commit before then or on the same day. I just know by the time of 15th comes I will have signed.”
Stay tuned Utah fans, as Kennedy could become part of an electrifying defense.
