There are 36 days left until the season opener for the University of Utah, and today we take a closer look at place kicker Cole Becker. The 2023 season was Becker's first season at Utah after transferring from Pac-12 rival Colorado.
Becker went 15-for-18 on field goals and 28-for-28 on PATs in 2023 for Utah in 10 games. In his two seasons at Colorado, Becker scored 120 points (25 FGs, 45 PATs) and was tied for seventh all-time for the Buffaloes.
UteNation Take
An early season injury kept Becker out of part of the 2023 season, but he has had the offseason to recover to full strength for 2024.
A healthy Becker will be one of the better kickers in the Big 12, a solid and reliable option that shortens the field for the offense. He’ll once again be a valuable weapon for the Utes in 2024.
Remembering Becker’s Recruitment
Although kickers do not usually receive much attention on the recruiting front, Becker was rated a six-star kicker by Chris Sailer Kicking and the no. 2 kicker as rated by ESPN. He only missed one kick in high school, making 45 of his 46 attempts. Some also might remember him going viral on social media after he hit a 68-yard field goal in high school. Becker held offers from Colorado, Iowa State, and Rice before choosing to stay in his home state of Colorado.
