Utah receiver commits to local program

Juan Diego receiver Keegan Andersen's dream since he was a little boy was to play college football. Now a senior in high school, Andersen has seen his recruitment pick up since making some in-state noise last year by catching seven touchdowns for over 500 receiving yards.
"It's always been my dream to get a scholarship," he said. I've always wanted to prove myself to play college football, and I have one more goal to accomplish after college and that is to go pro."

With Andersen, football runs deep in his family blood. His father, former Utah defensive coordinator and current head coach for Utah Sate, Gary Andersen, played college football for Utah. Andersen is now busy finishing up his high school career at Juan Diego and already has made college plans.
"I committed to Utah State about two weeks ago," confirmed Andersen. "My dad didn't even know I got offered. My dad gave coach Baldwin my film and he called me right after he watched it to offer me."
The chance to play for his father and football mentor was too good to not jump on for Andersen. "He's a good dad and a good coach. It won't be a big change or anything for my dad to coach me," he said.
With interest from in-state rivals BYU and Utah, young Andersen didn't feel like waiting for offers from either school was prudent.
Said Andersen, "Utah and BYU were interested - I went to Utah's high school camp, but I think coach Whit thought I was going to go to Utah State either way."
Andersen continues that he wasn't initially a done deal for Utah State, but figures his familial connection to the program kept other in-state schools from pursuing him further.
Listed as a possible early high school graduate, Andersen said his school credits most likely won't work out, which means he will finish out his senior year at Juan Diego and enroll in the fall of 2010.
