Bountiful High safety and local product Faletau Satuala kicked off his recruiting visits last weekend by officially visiting Utah, a school just a few miles south of his hometown, and one that he is quite familiar with.
“I went to like five or six Utes games last year,” he said. “So that already gave me a good feel for what to expect.”
Satuala said that he really enjoyed getting to know several current players and coaches and got to spend a fair amount of time with Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley.
"We had a great time. The guys were way fun to be around,” he said. “Most of them were freshmen and sophomores, so they are younger kids, and it was just cool to hang out with them."
As a junior, Satuala gained attention as he did a little bit of everything for Bountiful last season. Offensively, he led the RedHawks in receiving yards (327) and touchdowns (3), and he even completed 6 passes for 82 yards. Defensively, he was second on the team with 60 tackles, and was second in 5A Region 5 with 6 interceptions.
When considering what makes him unique on the field, Satuala is quick to point out attributes that have led him to be a ball hawk.
"Being able to cover the entire field, and make reads all across the field,” he said, while also mentioning the importance of film and natural ability. “It's a little bit of both, we watch film at (Bountiful High) a lot, but it's also pretty natural from all of the training I've done, that's what I've worked on a lot."
Satuala holds offers from several top schools around the nation, including Utah, USC, Tennessee, UCLA, BYU and Vanderbilt, but he’s narrowed down his top 3 schools to Utah, BYU, and UCLA. He also intends to take an official to BYU later this month.
"I want to be sure that wherever I go to school it’s a good fit with the other players and coaches,” he said. “My decision will also be a little bit with their schemes and their output into the NFL."
Since Satuala is early in his visit process, he doesn’t have a set timeframe for announcing a commitment. However, once he feels it's right, he'll make a decision. He'd like to have it made before the start of the next football season.
