Masina dominant at All-Poly

Everywhere he goes, Brighton's Osa Masina simply dominates. This weekend at the All-Poly Camp, it was no different. This was the first time Masina participated in the popular event, and the 6-foot-3 230-pound linebacker walked away with more hardware, being named the linebacker MVP.
"It was nice," said Masina. "It was finally good to get padded up again-all strapped up and click-clacking out there. It was definitely fun."

Two injuries the last two summers were the main culprits for this being a first-time experience for Masina. "This is huge, definitely fun," he said. "I've never been able to participate in this camp because two years ago I had a torn hamstring and last year, (I hurt) my hip flexor, so this was amazing." According to Masina, he almost missed the camp again, due to having a root canal this week, but chose to fight through that discomfort instead.
Already one the top players in the country and one of the best players to come out of the state of Utah in years, Masina humbly admitted that there is still a lot for him to learn. Therefore, this week has proved invaluable to him.
"From a football standpoint, you know, I learned a whole lot," he said. "There's a lot of Division 1 coaches out here and linebacker coaches that taught me a whole lot that I didn't know. You're never as good as you think you are, so it's definitely good to be out here learning new things."
Not long ago, Masina narrowed his list-a list that includes Utah. That move likely alleviated a lot of stress that could have taken place for him this week, as there were over 100 coaches in attendance. "I don't know if it was hectic or not," said Masina. "I just like saying hi to everybody. I've already made my top eight, so I'm not accepting anymore, but it's so fun just to see coaches and get advice from coaches-non-football advice-getting a whole bunch of stuff like that, talking to these guys out here."
According to Masina, before the football season starts, he'll narrow his list down to five. It is a decision that should have Ute Nation on pins and needles as the team looks to keep an elite talent-with plenty of ties to the school-home.
"I talk with Tuiaki and Sitake a lot-probably the most-they're probably my main recruiters (at Utah)," said Masina. "We have a great relationship. When I talk to them, I don't really talk football. We just talk about everything else."
Masina's interest in the Utes is simple. "I'm just a homegrown Utah guy," he said. "You know, I grew up watching Utah games as a little kid, going to Utah football games, and my brothers are Utes, so…"
So, Ute Nation will wait with bated breath in the coming moths, hoping that their "homegrown Utah guy," will one day be on-board with his brothers, Uaea and Lo'i, helping lead the Utes to national prominence.
