Isom makes the call

When Destrehan (Louisiana) quarterback Donovan Isom left for an unofficial visit to Utah earlier this week, he knew that the Utes were clearly atop his list.
Once he saw the campus, Isom knew that Utah was where he wanted to be. On Tuesday, Isom made it official by committing to play for the Utes. For Isom, there were many reasons he wanted to become a Ute.

"Utah has a great academic program. They're also an up and coming great football program. I love the coaches over there. I love Coach Johnson and Coach Erickson. Coach Whittingham is also a really cool person. I felt like they will help me get to where I need to be as a football player, as a quarterback and with my academics," Isom explained.
The unofficial visit to Salt Lake City went a long way toward cementing the Utes at the top of Isom's list. "When I got to Utah, I felt like this is home. I committed the next day and everyone was excited and I was just overjoyed," he said.
Isom believes that he'll be a good fit with the offensive scheme Utah is developing under Dennis Ericson. "Offensively I love what Utah's going to do this upcoming year. Coach Johnson is great with QBs especially because he played quarterback at the school. I think he'll take me to the next level. From talking with Coach Erickson and Coach Johnson, they feel I can help them. They just said I would fit into what they do," he said.
Now that he's made his decision, Isom claims that he plans on sticking with it. "It's a strong verbal commitment. Very strong. I'm done with my recruitment. I told [my high school coach] Coach Robicheaux to make some phone calls and tell other programs I committed. I'm 100% Ute," he said.
With his commitment out of the way, Isom plans on turning his focus to his senior year. "I'm just going to finish up on school since I got recruiting out of the way. It's time to focus on Destrehan football and focus on the teams. It's time to win games," he said.
