BYU quarterback Max Hall and TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes headlined the preseason All-Mountain West Team. Hall earned Offensive Player of the Year while Hughes earned a unanimous selection to the first team defense along with Defensive Player of the Year. Utah linebacker Stevenson Sylvester and BYU tight end Dennis Pitta were the other unanimous selections. TCU nearly swept the Player of the Year awards as return specialist Jeremy Kerley was named the Special Teams Player of the Year and running back Ed Wesley, a 2-star prospect from the 2008 class is the preseason pick for Freshman of the Year.

TCU had the most players on the team with seven. The Utes were well represented with running back Matt Asiata, left tackle Zane Beadles, defensive end Koa Misi, and safety Robert Johnson joining Sylvester on the All-Conference team. BYU also had five players make the squad.
