Brenchley Commits

On Wednesday afternoon, the Runnin’ Utes added a piece to their future with the commitment of 2017 combo guard Jaxon Brenchley.

“It’s been crazy today, committing to Utah,” says Brenchley. “Utah has been my top option, everything has worked out and today has been a great day.”

As a junior at Mountain Crest High School last season, the 6’5” and 180 lbs Brenchley averaged 18.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. He will suit up for the newly formed Ridgeline High School this year before embarking on a two year LDS mission and will join the Utes basketball program in 2019. Even though he won’t be wearing the red and white for a while, Jaxon is just happy he knows he found the perfect fit for him during his collegiate career.

“I love Utah,” says Brenchley about his future school. “They’ve been recruiting me since I was a freshman. I’ve always been around the campus, going to football games, camps, and they’ve recruited me pretty hard the last year. I went down on Monday and got the offer and thought about it for a couple of days, then today I decided to make the drive again and sat down in Coach K’s office and made the commitment to him.”

Associate Head Coach Tommy Connor has been recruiting Brenchley since he began his high school days, and both he and Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak played an integral role in landing their future guard.

“Those two are some of the main reasons I’m going there,” says Brenchley. “Me and Coach Connor built a great relationship. He would text me or call me and catch up and ask how I’m doing for the past few years and I’d meet him at football and basketball games. Coach K, he would come to my high school and AAU games and I built a great relationship with the both of them. They told me they saw huge improvement every year, whether it was my athleticism or shot. They want me to keep working hard my senior season and keep up my improvement.”

So what can Utah fans expect out of their skilled future guard? According to Brenchley, a desire to win and willingness to do whatever it takes to come out on top.

“I’m going to compete every play, make the right play to win. Whatever it takes to win. Coach K thinks I can be a great combo guard in the system with my ability to pass, shoot, dribble, anything he wants I can do for him,” he said.Brenchley held offers from Utah State, UVU, Santa Clara, UC Davis, UPenn, and Cornell. Ultimately, it was Ute Nation that won him over. “The fans, brand new top of the line facilities, opportunity to play, and the education. I want to tell [Utah fans] I am here to win. Go Utes, and let’s get buckets!”
