The University of Utah received their second commitment out of Texas over the last week as safety “Manny” Shelton Fuller made the call.

The 6-foot and 175 pound safety out of Del Valle HS in El Paso, TX visited Utah the weekend of June 1st. His final schools came down to Utah, Texas Tech, Houston, BYU, Oregon State. and UTEP.

He made his announcement on social media midday Monday:

What Utah is Getting

Fuller is a versatile athlete who excels on both side of the ball. While his offensive tape is impressive, his instincts, high football IQ, and athleticism bring intrigue to what he could develop into in the Utah defensive system. Most of Fuller’s defensive highlights show him crashing down into the box as a physical safety, but he has the talent to play either safety position.

Tao Johnson has the free safety position locked down for the next two years at Utah, but Utah will be waiting for their next star at strong safety to emerge. When Fuller arrives in 2025, there will be enough capable depth to allow him to develop, but he displays the type of instincts that could see him receive early playing time.

What This Means for the Class

Fuller is the thirteenth commitment for the 2025 class. He joins cornerback Jason Stokes Jr., offensive lineman Milz Asiata, linebacker Cyrus Polu, athlete JJ Buchanan, offensive lineman Soren Shinofield, linebacker/edge rusher Max Fonoimoana, tight end Drew Clemens, linebacker Christian Thatcher, defensive lineman Karson Kaufusi, defensive tackle Sione Motuapuaka, quarterback Wyatt Becker, as well as defensive end Nela Tupou in the 2025 class.

There’s bound to be some form of turnover from the Utah safety room after the 2024 season, but Alaka’i Gilman is the only senior on scholarship.
