Lopez is choosing among Pac-12 schools

MORE: #RivalsChallenge thread | Full coverage

ATLANTA -- John Lopez is about ready to make his decision.

It's almost certainly going to be a Pac-12 school, too.

The 6-foot-5, 328-pound offensive guard from Orange (Calif.) Lutheran said UCLA and Washington are the likeliest destinations but Colorado has not been eliminated, either, because he wants to take an unofficial visit there.

"I'm probably going to stay in the Pac-12," Lopez said at registration for the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. "I'm staying there.

"I like UCLA, Washington, and I still want to go to Colorado to see what it's like. All those Pac-12 schools, I want to stay there."

Florida State, Vanderbilt and some other impressive programs farther away have offered Lopez but he has reasoning for staying in the Pac-12 -- it's what he's always known and soon he could be a part of it.

"Growing up in California you know the Pac-12," Lopez said. "Everybody in your hometown knows the Pac-12. It would be nice to grow up in it and then play there.

"Washington was really nice. I liked it up there. At UCLA, I really like the new coaching staff and it's a hard choice between those two. I still want to see Colorado so it's really those schools."

A commitment could come soon.

Lopez, rated as the sixth-best offensive guard, No. 140 in the 2013 class and No. 17 in the California state rankings, is participating in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge this weekend, then will be at The Opening and then could make his choice.

"I'm pretty much just trying to wind it down," Lopez said. "Hopefully I'll get it done this summer."
